What do I think of Cara quitting?
Supermodel Cara Delevingne announced that she is leaving the modelling industry!
Whether it’s a publicity stunt or for real, I do believe Cara’s reasons are very valid:
Cara was quoted in various media outlets as saying ‘I am a bit of a feminist and it makes me feel sick. It’s horrible and it’s disgusting. [We’re talking about] young girls. You start when you are really young and you do get subjected to…not great stuff.’
Having been in the modeling industry myself since I was 14, I do really understand where she is coming from and it’s good that she is not afraid to speak out about the lows of the industry. But part of me does feel that she has forgotten the ‘highs’ of the industry, or maybe her heart just wasn’t in it. I wish she’d had a mentor in the early days too, to keep her away from the horrible things she has spoken about experiencing when she first started out.
She has also apparently spoken about her love for her acting career. Sometimes modelling is a gateway to other careers, she’s been savvy enough to use her modelling career and contacts to get her to a place in her life that she loves.
So, really, the bottom line is DO WHAT YOUR HEART DESIRES! (As long as it’s not hurting anyone, animals or anything else, of course).
Sometimes you do need to use something as a gateway to your dreams. Say, for instance, you work in a fashion store and magazine representatives and media figures are always visiting the store… Working there for six months could be your gateway in to modelling… Or, other times you’re so unhappy with where you are that it actually de-motivates you and pulls you in a completely different direction to what your heart wants.
QUITTING OR CHANGING IS OKAY! AS LONG AS IT’S FOR THE GREATER GOOD – TO FOLLOW YOUR HEARTS DESIRES, YOUR DREAMS AND YOUR REAL PASSION.
You are responsible for your own happiness.
Never be afraid to ‘quit’ to follow your true purpose in life, and don’t listen to others opinions on it! Be bold!
